La Habana, Cuba – this is the full frame image of an earlier post in which I talked about the irony of a carful of (probably American) tourists sporting a selfie stick and taking selfies as they roll by Che's likeness in Old Havana … Well, for those of you who hate Che, this image should at least bring you some degree of satisfaction, as I'm sure you can imagine what Che would be thinking now of what's become of his communist dream for Cuba as it's being invaded more and more each day by America's selfie-stick sporting tourist army … Hasta la Victoria Siempre … ????

La Habana, Cuba – Hands of a Cuban Santeria drummer, Centro Habana; I've been feeling a bit nostalgic lately, so I've been re-posting some of my all-time favorite shots from my collective trips to Havana … Well, this image easily makes it into my top 3 favorite images of all-time … I was visiting a cultural center w my people-to-people group in Centro Habana, but I'd already visited the center during my last p2p trip, so I decided to hang outside and actually engage and talk w some real peeps on the street … Well, this man was one of the first I met on the street that afternoon in Centro Habana. He kindly explained that he was a Santeria Drummer, and that he has been for many years … He then stuck of his hands to show me the wear and tear all those years of drumming had done to his hands (and if you know anything about the religion of Santeria, they're not shy about playing some drums … and I say that sincerely with the utmost respect for their religion and admiration for their cultural heritage) … Well, of course, me being the total photo nerd I am, I took one look at those hands and was like ??? Ummm yeah, can I PLEASE get a shot of those hands, bc they're an absolutely amazing tribute to both you and your art/religion/culture … He smiled big and said something along the lines of "Sí, claro" (yes, of course), and the result is what you see above … I only captured two frames of his hands that day on the streets of Centro (such a rookie mistake ?), but thankfully I think this image does both the gentleman and his hands the justice they so-well deserve. Buenas tardes y noches a todos ????
